Straight-outta-Gloucester, 69 year-old DJ Grammafone is proving herself to be a sensation on the dancefloors of some of the UK’s hottest clubs. While most of her peers will be tucked up in bed with a mug of cocoa GrammaFone is in her element amongst the night-freaks, dropping her unique mix of tough electro and proven party-starters to an appreciative and demanding crowd. In a scene where appearance is everything and energy is paramount DJ Grammafone is proving, once and for all, that youth really is wasted on the young. But who is this grand-dame of clubland?….

Learning her skills on a set of decks borrowed from her grand-daughter’s boyfriend Jo Lazzarani (as she was christened in 1942) set-about learning her dubstep from her 2-step, her house from her garage and her beat-mixing from her scribble-scratching in late 2009. After months honing her skills and developing her knowledge in the spare room of her neat suburban semi Jo started to venture out into the clubs themselves performing short 30 minute sets unannounced. As her confidence grew so did her reputation and it was only a short while before a management deal with an established agent was signed followed by the first of several high profile gigs.

Since the summer of 2010 DJ Grammafone hasn’t looked back and has played at venues up and down the country to crowds generally old enough to be her grand-children. Conscious of being perceived as something of a gimmick Jo has worked tirelessly to improve her skills on the decks and to ensure that she delivers a stand-out performance at every show. Her hard work paid off when clubbing bible Mixmag named her as one of its ‘future heroes’ cementing her position as a highly skilled, bona-fide club DJ.

Dj Grammafone will be making her sixth festival appearance of the 2011 season at the renowned Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival in Beauly by Inverness. This show will mark her Highlands debut and will see her spin two sets over two days at the newly added Ciao Bella ‘fashion show’ stage on Fri 5th and Saturday 6th August. As a catwalk model herself who still graces the runway on a regular basis Jo is particularly thrilled to be involved this event. ‘After music, fashion and modelling is my biggest passion so I’m very excited to get the chance to combine them both at the one event. Too bad I never got invited to join the modelling team. I’d have liked the chance to show the girls how to do it properly’.
