Here’s the latest from Festival Director Mike Stephens on this year’s Acoustic Festival:

“The 6th Acoustic festival of Britain is very ‘ green / sustainable based… the 3 marquee stages are powered by solar and ‘ bikes . The Dome tent is also as always a solar stage. Over 6 yurts will be at the event with workshops and children’s arts taking place within them, in fact a huge ‘Top Hat tipi will also feature our poets corner, featuring several writers and poets / comics over the 3 day event, including punk icon John Cooper Clarke.

The town centre will feature a stage for the first time, with many budding young and local musicians taking their opportunity to play.

A good mix of roots, folk, blues and rock all performed in the un-plugged manner in which MTV famously pushed out the Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton concerts in the 80s.  Relaxed and laid back with banter and stories which can delight the fans.

A quality list of Celtic legendary musicians from the decades past will see Incredible String band creator Robin Williamson and his partner Bena and Irelands Tir Na Nog  are re-united for their first festival in 30 years.

Original Glastonbury foksters Stackridge are on view on Saturday as Squeeze front man Glenn Tilbrook and Welsh icon Mike Peters of The Alarm who is also the singer of Big Country.

Headline and super star of 40 years,  Joan Armatrading will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award on her Saturday evening appearance where she will be performing  her greatest hits that include ‘ Love and Effection’ and Drop The Pilot’.

So a feast of hits through the past 4 decades will be heard, ultimately  coming to a close on Sunday with  Eurovision winner Katrina and the waves Walking On Sunshine, as we all hope to be doing on the last weekend of May. Children will be entertained, parents enthralled and grandparents reliving their musical past, a truly wonderful family festival or day out!”
