Broadcasting legend Annie Nightingale will join The Big Chill in 2011 for a DJ set that will epitomise her stance as one of the most dedicated champions of underground and independent music.
Annie Nightingale MBE is the first lady of broadcasting with an impressive career spanning four decades at BBC Radio 1. Paving the way for the likes of Janice Long to Mary Anne Hobbs to Annie Mac, multi-award-winning Annie Nightingale is known as an energetic party animal and claims to be most proud of winning Muzik Magazine’s Caner Of The Year, among other awards which include being the first female DJ to be inducted in the Radio Academy Hall Of Fame.
In 2010 Annie entered the Guinness Book Of Records for ‘longest running female radio DJ show in the world’ whilst also picking up the Outstanding Contribution to Dance Music award from DJ Mag. The 2010 celebrations of Annie’s career included an exhibition of Annie’s photos at the O2 and a complete takeover of Radio 1 featuring a 9 hour broadcast, highlighting Annie’s far reaching choices in music, with live guests ranging from Tinchy Stryder and Professor Green to Sub Focus, Primal Scream, Kevin Shields and Paul Weller.
As relevant today as when she began her broadcasting career, The Big Chill is delighted to welcome Annie back this year with ‘Annie Nightingale: Decades Show’. Join in the party celebrations with Annie as she closes the Revellers’ Stage on Sunday.
Now a fully fledged member of the Festival Republic family The Big Chill is poised to build further on the successes of 2010, one of its most successful years to date. Last year saw an international line-up of some of the biggest selling names in electronic, indie and pop music and 2011 sees another all-star cast taking to The Big Chill stages including an exclusive UK festival appearance by Kanye West plus The Chemical Brothers and Rodrigo y Gabriela. The Big Chill takes place from 4th to 7th of August 2011 at Eastnor Castle Deer Park in Ledbury, Herefordshire.
