Autograff has been announced as the Tramlines’ People’s Choice DJ 2012.
The DJ will go on to open the Dance World on Saturday 21 July at this year’s Tramlines, joining an all star line up curated by Toddla T and including Benga and MC Youngman, Jack Master and Toddla T Sound.
Autograff was chosen from eight of the City’s favourite DJs and producers who battled it out at DQ at the People’s Choice DJ final last Friday (4 May).
Autograff said: “A massive thanks to everyone who supported me , big up to the other DJs, I'm very excited about the gig and it's just been a great experience."
Autograff has been on the Sheffield scene for many years now, representing various crews such as R8 Records, Liquid Steel and Dark Crystal. He plays a wide mixture of music from dubstep to ragga and more recently juke and boombahchero.
Autograff is involved with R8 Records, a Sheffield based record label that has pushed dubstep and related genres for over five years. He has also dabbled in production collaborating with his brother Rogue State and local artist, Walter Ego.
Each finalist played a half hour set which was recorded. A panel of judges including headliners Andy H and Oris J made their decision based on the performances given on Friday.
Andy H said: "Autograff played a great set with a perfect selection to warm up for a massive night of Tramlines in the Octagon"
A second gig, to decide the People’s Choice band finalists, takes place on Saturday 19 May at The Leadmill. Headlined by Wet Nuns to Dead Sons, doors are open at 6:30 and the music will be flowing right on to 11:30.
Kate Hewett, Head Booker at Tramlines said: “A big part of Tramlines has always been about showcasing Sheffield talent and the People’s Choice does exactly that. The best part of it is that it is the music lovers of Sheffield who have driven both People’s Choice competitions.”
Tickets are £5.00 advance and are available from HMV, The Harley, The Wick at Both Ends, Leadmill Box Office, www.leadmill.co.uk, The Bowery and Sheffield Motorpoint Arena Box Office. All entry fees will go straight back into the festival.
