Scarborough Open Air Theatre invites classical music lovers to share anevening of outstanding compositions and spectacular fireworks at themagnificent historical setting that has re-captured the heart of the localcommunity. In celebration of the newly re-furbished Open Air Theatre,Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai McDowall will join the legendary Dame KiriTe Kanawa, beloved TV and Radio personality Aled Jones and the superb Opera North Orchestra to close the season of exuberant musicalperformances taking place throughout the summer.
Today Scarborough Open Air Theatre is thrilled to announce that Jai McDowell will make an exclusive performanceas part of the magnificent Last Night Of The Proms at the stunning Yorkshire site on 28th August 2011. McDowall has captured the heart of the nation with a surprising yet worthy win on this year’s Britain’s Got Talent. 12.5 millionviewers watched him take to the stage to perform an all encompassing and powerful rendition of Josh Groban’s hitTo Where You Are. Having won a place on the bill at the prestigious Royal Variety Show, McDowall’s commandingvoice will ensure that this evening is one not to be missed.
The illustrious and esteemed Dame Kiri Te Kanawa will perform a headline operatic spectacle in the stunning andnewly refurbished Open Air Theatre. Famous for her natural serenity and vocal talent, Dame Kiri is a household namein the world of classical music. Past celebrated performances at leading opera houses throughout the world includethe Chicago Lyric, Paris, Sydney, the Vienna State, Munich and San Francisco.
Joining the evening’s celebrations, the nation’s much-loved Aled Jones will also be performing. Rising to fame in the80s, Jones has repeated his popular success through the decades releasing successful albums and becoming thefirst person ever to have two classical albums in the pop charts simultaneously. Now regularly found presenting andperforming on Songs of Praise, showcasing his own shows on Radio 2, Radio 3 and Radio Wales; ScarboroughOpen Air Theatre is thrilled to welcome such a celebrated figure.Accompanying these groundbreaking artists will be the Opera North Orchestra who will bring their highly acclaimedensemble to Scarborough Open Air Theatre. Holding the title for the only orchestra in the country to have a yearrounddual role in opera houses and concert halls, Opera North are not to be missed with their fresh and enthusiasticapproach to creating unique and outstanding live performance.
