How is Brownstock shaping up for 2012?

Really well thank you. We’ve got lots of exciting new additions to the festival in the pipeline this year. Really feels like we have established ourselves in the festival calendar and found our feet, which is a big milestone for a young developing festival like us.

The hype surrounding the festival on our twitter page and interaction on Facebook is incredible. Presales are great especially considering we have yet to release any acts, which  shows people have faith in us. We thrive on the pressure that puts us under to make sure the festival out does itself. First wave of acts will be out in the next couple of weeks so keep up to date at facebook.com/brownstock and @brownstockfest?

How do you manage to keep the ticket price so cheap and competitive yet book high caliber of artists?

We work hard to keep as much of the running of the festival in house or within to immediate festival team at least. Working out of a shed / office on the farm. We book all the production, infrastructure and acts ourselves, also I’ve had to learn the ins and outs of licensing, amongst other things, to avoid large staffing costs throughout the year. We also rely heavily on the enthusiasm and passion for Brownstock that our family and friends have shown over the years. Good old nana is 86 and still gets stuck in; she is also now a big fan of Example.

We are fortunate to have Mat Format the Black Sheep of Brownstock heading up our array of talent showcased over the weekend. With years of experience touring with and supporting the artists we book at the farm, he is in an ideal position to reach cutting edge acts we wouldn't normally have access to at the best price possible.

Last year he proved exactly that securing Example, Ms Dynamite and Pendulum all artists that he has firm relationships with, I think he is using up his favors and mates rates thick and fast!!! Mat is constantly reminding everyone how Brownstock gives fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with their idols and the same applies to the stars themselves, we have collectively established an event that these acts want to be a part of and this is what sets us apart.

Is Doorly one of your secret weapons? We hear the newly aquired Rinse FM DJ is helping you with booking the acts for your infamous dance tent!

Well, not so secret. It is a well known fact that Doorly is a true Brownstock Patron and has been since his debut performance for us back in 2010. The man is a machine. When he's not headlining shows all over the world he is launching new DJ software for Pioneer, hosting the infamous Ibiza Rocks Hotel live show or promoting his own night in his hometown of Huddersfield aptly named 'Afterparty'.

Add to this his new show on the renowned Rinse FM it is a wonder how he manages to maintain a successful record label with 'Pigeon Hole This' but somehow manages to do so and has a range of killer tshirts to boot!

The idea of him hosting the dance dome alongside Mat Format (Black Sheep) was originally meant for last year after an impromptu visit to Ibiza Rocks from myself & Mat but due to scheduling difficulties had to be put on ice whilst Doorly took over the USA. But, we are pleased to announce he was chomping at the bit to be involved this year and we were nothing short of elated to have him on board. Here is a quote from the man himself...

"I'm really excited to be curating my own arena at Brownstock this year.  I played at the festival 2 years ago and had an absolute blast, I loved the intimate, open-minded boutique feel the place had and originally meant to do this last year but my US tour was extended so I couldn’t make it back.  The vibe of Brownstock will suit the way i want to book this stage

Could you tell us a bit about this year’s rep scheme?

Last year was the first time we officially started rewarding reps for being an ambassador to the festival and driving ticket sales for us. That’s not to say people haven’t been doing it, driven by their love of Brownstock, since we started 8 years ago. This year the scheme ties in really well with the new ticket platform designed by a company called 'CrowdSurge' who share the Brownstock ethos, getting groups of mates together to enjoy a great weekend. For us as a family it has become the reunion weekend of the year, when we see a lot of old faces that we don’t get a chance to catch up with regularly. We are looking for people to sign up as reps, they can do this by enquiring to [email protected]

Anything new planned for this year’s happy campers?

This year for first time we are launching a very exclusive VIP Yurt Camping arena. Guests can enjoy the luxury of staying in a fully furnished and lockable yurt (Mongolian tent). These tickets also give you access to proper toilets, not portable loos, showers and lots of other perks. Generally offering the VIP treatment from when you leave the car, where someone will be on hand with a wheel barrow to transport your bags to the yurt where a champagne reception will be waiting for you.

Do you look after your artists as well as your festival goers?

Yes of course and this has always been paramount to our ethos at Brownstock. Last year Pendulum went on record to say that from 26 festivals that they had headlined so far that year, Brownstock had by far the best hospitality. With fish pedicures and massages all encased within their very own Yurt styled dressing room we have a dedicated artist liaison team that will pamper their every need...

What makes Brownstock different to all the other festivals?

We as a family and team all believe very strongly in the festival and the brand. Improving the festival goer’s weekend and giving opportunity to the wide array of artistic talent there is around are our main goals, ultimately building a festival that we would want to go to, not one that is all about the money. Big festival line up, small festival price

In other words –as far from V as we can be.
