A charity auction selling off instruments signed by Kendal Calling headliners will open for bidding on eBay on Thursday 1st November. The auction will raise money for Cancer Research, Sue Ryder North West, NSPCC, Tiger Awareness and the WWF.
The auction by Kendal Calling festival and Silent Cartel, who are a Lake District based film company who work at Kendal Calling every year to film the festivals exclusive Lakeside Sessions. The ‘Lakeside Sessions’ feature as many artists performing at the festival as possible. Tucked away at a stunning location by a lakeside at the festival, artists gather to treat a select few lucky music lovers to acoustic renditions of their much-loved hits as well as exclusive new material… this year Frank Turner treated fans to a first play of his next single! Headliners Blondie and The Cribs as well as a whole host of acts including The Levellers, Tim Burgess and Mark Collins (The Charlatans), Beardyman, Maverick Sabre, Kitty Daisy & Lewis more took part in these stripped back performances.
As well as performances the Lakeside Sessions is key in the yearly charity auction, which this year has grown even bigger, with several signed guitars being put under the hammer! Silent Cartel in conjunction with Kendal Calling approached local music shops and regional charities to help them in their campaign to raise awareness for their chosen charities. These collectable and totally unique guitars up for auction are signed by some of the biggest names in the music industry. Alongside this auction Kendal Calling are also running a prize draw to win tickets to concerts as well as various items of merchandise and all of the proceeds will go to the chosen charities. There will also be two tickets to the ‘secret’ Lakeside Sessions at 2012’s festival up for grabs!The guitars were donated by; Omega Music in Brampton, Cumbria, Sue Ryder Northwest, Silent Cartel and Ben Robinson (Director of Kendal Calling).GUITARS UNDER THE HAMMER INCLUDE:
1. Pink Electric Encore Strat Copy Guitar signed by Debbie Harry, Clem Burke and Chris Stein with the words, “Blondie 2011 Panic of the Girls Tour”.
2. Chantry Acoustic guitar signed by Mark Collins & Tim Burgess of the Charlatans, The Cribs, Clem Burke of Blondie, Frank Turner, Mark Chadwick of the Levellers, Beardyman and Proud Mary to raise money for Sue Ryder North West.
3. Eastwood Acoustic donated by Omega Music in Brampton, Cumbria – signed by The Cribs, The Levellers, Frank Turner, Maverick Sabre, Craig Charles, The Whip, Charlie Veitch, Beardyman and many more.
4. Power Play Acoustic signed by Frank Turner, The Levellers, Hinda Hicks, The Lancashire Hotpots, Middleman, Al Baker, Riot Jazz, Frankie & the Heartstrings, Kitty, Daisy, and Lewis and more.
5. Palma PL34 signed by all of the Levellers and Blondie’s Clem Burke – plus artwork by Jeremy Cunningham of the Levellers.
6. Kay Electric Guitar signed by Craig Charles and Craig Gazey (Graeme on Corrie).
7. An Old Classic guitar signed by Debbie Harry, Chris Stein and Clem Burke, with the words: “Blondie 2011” also written.
Jodrell Bank Live needs your vote!
The team behind Kendal Calling now organise a unique live experience called: Live from Jodrell Bank. The first in a series of ‘transmissions’ took place on 2nd July and featured The Flaming Lips and KC favourites British Sea Power on the bill; now the event has been nominated for an award. Live from Jodrell Bank at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre has been shortlisted for ‘Best Tourism Event 2011’ in the Cheshire Tourism Awards. The KC team are planning more exciting intergalactic ‘tranmissions’ at Jodrell Bank in the New Year so keep your ear to the ground.

Kendal Calling is planning on releasing a limited number of tickets for 2012’s festival for Christmas presents. More news will be released on this must have tickets at the start of November, so keep your ear to the ground… Dates for the award-winning festival are 27th-29th July 2012. Festival tickets will go on general sale in early 2012.
