Dubstep front-runner SBTRKT live and Polish popstress Julia Marcell also added to line-up
Heineken Open’er festival 4th –7th July 2012, Gdynia, Poland
Already boasting some of the best contemporary pop and electronic music on the planet, Open’er can now confirm that Take Me Out post-punkers Franz Ferdinand will headline the Heineken Open’er main stage on Friday 6th July 2012 joining the previously announced Björk, The xx and Justice. Also heading for Gdynia this summer will be SBTRKT live, one of the hottest properties in dubstep right now and Polish-born singer-songwriter Julia Marcell who will return to Poland from Germany where she currently lives.
With a Mercury Prize, two BRITs and an Ivor Novello Award under their belts, not to mention platinum selling records, Franz Ferdinand are sure to set the Open’er mainstage alight in 2012. Having spent most of 2011 in the studio preparing the follow-up to 2009’s Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, rumoured to be due for release this year, the band’s set at Open’er will be a welcome return to the live stage and follows on from the first ever Franz Ferdinand appearance in Poland that took place at Open’er back in 2006.
Sporting a mask on stage and behind the decks, Aaron Jerome is as protective of his face as he is his real name but he is now known the world over under the guise of SBTRKT. From his DJ sets at London’s Plastic People to signing to label du jour Young Turks the electronic producer has attracted much praise both for his own tracks and remixes for the likes of Radiohead, MIA and Mark Ronson.
The final of the latest additions comes in the form of Julia Marcell, an artist who burst onto the European music scene in 2008 via her fan-funded debut album It Might Like You. Polish-born Marcell’s mix of pop, folk and electronic sounds have a quirky and hypnotic effect.
Franz Ferdinand and SBTRKT live join Björk, Justice and The xx as the beginnings of another astounding line-up are revealed, demonstrating exactly why Heineken Open’er has been crowned Best Major Festival at the European Festival Awards in two consecutive years.
Over 100 artists will perform across the weekend for a mere £74 (including camping), Heineken Open’er is the summer’s ultimate European festival.
