These bands are on the road to stardom, never forgetting where their roots are.
At that very first Y Not festival, all the bands were friends of the guys and girls who put it all together. Remembering where it came from, today Y Not still features its aptly named Allotment Stage as a critical part of the weekend. The stage exclusively presents hand-picked, home-grown talent. These can be bands born and bred in the local area or bands who have been with and grown alongside the festival from the beginning.
The now award-winning Y Not Festival is still crafted from the same labour of love that went in to sculpting those perfect few days in 2006. Six years later in 2011, it was the only festival to pick up two gongs at the UK Festival awards winning “Best Toilets” and “Grassroots Festival”, and it was the culmination of seven years of hard work that saw Y Not Festival established as one of the UK’s top events.
In its inaugural year, JD Roots has laid out a vision of support for grassroots and local music that encompasses not just exclusive hometown gigs from some of the biggest names on the alternative music scene but support for NME’s Small Venues Initiative and engagement with local music networks through the JD Roots fanzines and the forthcoming live EP’s from our three 2012 shows featuring The Cribs, The Horrors, Twin Atlantic and Nashville’s Black Belles. Every bottle of Jack Daniel’s comes from the distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee which is why JD Roots recognizes and celebrates the importance of home in the creative process.
