Secret Forum - The garden’s popular intellectual platform, has also announced some really exciting names in the fields of science, philosophy, technology and literature that will be enriching gardeners this summer. This summer’s line-up of movers & shakers includes Jamie Catto, Robin Ince, Josie Long, Aleks Krotoski, Chris Hatherill, Ann Daniels and Benjamin Morris. We are also told that we can expect mind-bending talks, spoken word performance and workshops hosted by Liars League, BERG, Super/Collider, Literary Death Match, Elephant, The Lost Lectures, Fast Future and PLEB.
The Sanctuary – This rejuvenation field will soothe more than just your muscles, taking you on a relaxing journey with their team of highly qualified therapists, guaranteeing to ease your body, mind and soul. Their theme of Fire, Earth and Water will take you on a visual tour around their beautiful space, with heavenly spots to kick back and relax in. The Secret Emporium - Will once again be bringing you the FINEST collection of fashion designers, makers, jewellers and milliners. It is THE place to get the best costume inspired fashion and accessories. Handpicked, these designers are OFF THE HOOK INCREDIBLE. The Secret Emporium team spend all winter sourcing the very best out there right now, with trips to London Fashion Week, countless markets, pop-ups and a lot of online trawling, they fill the Emporium with the most underground and fringe fashion you could hope for.
The Collo-Silly-Um – The award winning Bearded Kittens are back: bigger, bolder and even sillier for 2012. Once a hand dug pit and now a giant straw bale amphitheatre, the Collo-Silly-Um pays homage to the greatest and deadliest stage ever built: the Roman Collo-Silly-Um. Expect the very best in ridiculous entertainment, dazzling performance, outlandish games and DJ’s.
The Feast Of Fools – A fairground of wonder where tricksters ply their trade and tattooists work their craft; where snake oil salesmen rub shoulders with tarot readers and urchins. Eat at Sweeney Todd’s pie shop and drink mead at the Honeymoon Tavern whilst soaking in the brazen circus sideshows.
OneTaste - The OneTaste Village originates from the renowned OneTaste Collective; the music and spoken word crew who made their name discovering, showcasing and collaborating with emerging artists on the UK music, spoken word and theatre scenes. This year, OneTaste are upping the stakes and increasing the family bringing in collaborators such as the Roundhouse, Eden Project, The Moringa Tree, RUSS and many more. OneTaste will make their home around the oldest French lime tree on site and will offer incredible live music and poetry performances from around the world, parties, ceremonies, interactive workshops, vegetarian cafe, garden, outdoor stage, OneTaste cabaret, morning yoga, camp fire stories and more.
The Drop – A new arena sculpted into the steep grass banks and Oak trees. By day, in a twist of red, yellow and white, you'll find a haze of sun-kissed smiles, uninhibited chatter, miles of grooving bodies, glistening cocktails and excellent musical experiences spun like silk by the finest disc jockeys in the land. By night, the party moves indoors, from under the watchful gaze of a trusty oak tree, to a bass-shaken dancefloor where you may you bust out your finest foxtrot, thank the DJ for their fine array of musical treats or smile at the person next to you in a whirlwind of happiness and new found friends.
The Oddball Dancehall - The Oddball Ballroom is brought to you by the teams at Continental Drifts and Liminal Arts. The Oddball Ballroom has one overriding theme; REMIX! Every night represents the worlds of Vintage and Global Music, Remixed and peppered with a cavalcade of circus and performance from the Secret Garden Party, Thursday sees steam punk maestros, and the family of carny legend Carters Steam Fair, Tankus The Henge curate the ‘Nightmare Funfair!’. Friday is Electro Swing Club’s 1920`s to 1940`s remix. Secret Garden Party was there from its conception and this year we will once again be bringing one of the most jumping nights of the summer, with acts coming all the way from Denmark, America and Italy just for you! Get ready for the Swing Glitch revolution! Saturday celebrates the remix of the ancient music of the Balkans and Roma People; with acts coming from Australia and Serbia. Sunday is a special night with a remix led by the brass band heroes, Brassroots, and sees New Orleans music twisted and turned to Garden Party perfection. None of this would be possible without the financial support of Arts Council of England and Global Local. The incredible lineup includes Thomas Truax. The Penny Black Remedy, Tankus The Henge, Ruth Bloomers. Molotov Jukebox, Electric Swing Circus, Dj Tofu and The World’s Tallest Dj, Swing Growers, Analogik, Cyril Noir + The Black Kat Kabaret, Dutty Moonshine, Kazimier Krunk Band, Barons Of Tang and many more.
Tax Deductible’s Never-Ever Land Theatre – A travelling band of thespians, coryphées, troubadours and funambulists have packed up their itinerant theatre, hitched up the horses and will be storming the party with a sensational feast of original drama, comedy, dance, song and even some stuff for the kiddies. Compered by their ring master and lord of ceremonies, Renard Worthington-Foulfellow, the theatre will be throwing open it’s tent flaps for all 4 days of this summer’s party with an impressive line up of acts and performers running daily from the late morning until the later evening.
Wormfoods Valley of The Antics – Back for their 5th year in a row, Wormwood’s Valley Of The Antics, with a specially designed indoor/outdoor hay bale Amphitheatre, will be presenting a diverse and lovingly crafted line up of underground talent from afro and moombah right through to future hip-hop and Balkan beats.
The Living Room - The Living Room is the garden’s home to the finest acoustic artists and bands around. Returning once again for 2012, The Living Room promises to stimulate and reinvigorate. Each year a few acts are also invited from The Great Stage and welcomed into the intimate surroundings of The Living Room to play a special stripped-down set to the lucky ladies and gentleman who frequent it. Young Gardeners Children’s Area – There will be plenty of fun, games and activities for young gardeners too. Look out for Sky Blue Theatre Company’s theatrical workshops, which they will be running for children of all ages in the Never Ever Land Theatre Tent. Join The Flying Seagulls Circus for some ‘laughter therapy’, circus skills and other crazy games at Kids Camp. Where young gardeners can also take part in the multi-coloured glittery Candy Floss Olympics with The Secret Micronation of Candy Queens, join a drumming circle, learn capoeira, explore the music maze, screen print a t-shirt, create a headdress, write a story with Writers Ink Suitcase Stories, make a pizza or watch a puppet show with The Italian Job. Spectacles and Ceremonies - The Secret Garden Party is a celebration of absolute freedom and the games; spectacles and events that unfold within its walls embody this spirit more than anything else. They are designed with your participation in mind, so whether it's joining the tail of a parade, diving into the infamous paint fight, sock wrestling in the mud pit or joining in with the secret night games, make sure you get involved.
The Artful Badger – Set in a magical woodland realm where human culture and nature intersect in a glorious celebration of life. Expect wild workshops, games, tribal communion, masked theatrics music and dancing.
Soul Fire Restaurant - The garden’s sensual food sanctuary, the Soul Fire Restaurant is now taking bookings for The Secret Garden Party 2012. Returning for its fourth year, this is the perfect place to relax, connect with friends and replenish a famished soul during the party. Housed in a cozy hub of deliciously dressed yurts, Soul Fire provides a retreat where you can eat and be merry. Live music will play all day and evening guests will be treated to fabulous performances.
Secret Forum – Secret Productions' intellectual platform - fuses the arts and academia, putting people directly in touch with leading thinkers & doers in politics, philosophy, business, science, tech, journalism, sociology and activism. Secret Forum is the flagship ideas platform for the Glade, Wilderness, and Secret Garden Party festivals. It also has a monthly residency at Shoreditch House, and runs themed events in landmark London venues - including The Astronomers' Ball in October at the Royal Observatory.
Secret Forum will be facilitating classes on everything from 'how to stay sane' to skimming stones - workshops on happiness, creativity and storytelling - readings and performance on lakes & up trees; and late-night ghost stories deep in the woods - debates from Intelligence Squared, a Sunday Sermon from The School of Life, and stargazing with the Royal Observatory.
