Scotland’s most creative boutique event Eden Festival has enlisted the help of Emma’s Imagination to scour the UK for unsigned talent.
The former winner of Sky television’s Must Be the Music talent show has agreed to judge a national competition giving young undiscovered acts the chance to open the festival’s main stage.
Emma’s Imagination real name Emma Gillespie commented “I'm so excited to be judging the bands for this year’s Eden festival. There are a lot of talented musicians out there so it’s going to be a tough decision. However there can only be one winner and l am really looking forward to giving somebody their first festival break.”
Saturday the 28th April sees the launch of the competition in the Caves nightclub Edinburgh.
The lucky winner will get to open Eden Festival’s main stage on the 15th June at Raehills Meadow near Dumfries in South West Scotland.
Sally Campbell who is the artistic director for the event commented “ Festivals are a great launching platform for young acts, not only do they get exposure in front of a large audience, they can also be picked up by talent scouts or get previewed by the music press. We are expecting a deluge of entrants from around the British Isles.”
The competition launch coincides with a taste of Eden club night extravaganza. Meredith Langley Vine who heads up the festival production explained “For people who have never attended Eden before they can dip their toe in the water at our Edinburgh club night. A burlesque rock n roll cabaret, fire jugglers, knife throwers, gin soaked fruit mistresses and DJ’s are just some of the entertainment on offer for those who want to come along. In addition people can get to meet the festival organisers and get a feel for the event before coming down for the weekend.”
Eden Festival has secured over 230 acts for its fourth outing this summer .1980’s exercise tsar Mr Motivator will provide some family fun whilst the Cuban Brothers will be on hand for a dose of comedic mayhem. Badly Drawn Boy, Dub Pistols Sound System and The Peatbog Fairies will head up one of the most eclectic handpicked festival line up’s of 2012.
A taste of Eden club night takes place in the Caves, Niddrie Street South, Edinburgh on Saturday the 28th April. Attendees are encouraged to dress funky and the doors open at 9.30pm running through to 3am. Admission is £6 for competition entrants and members of the public alike.
