Nozstock The Hidden Valley is delighted to announce the initial comedy line up for 2012 (more tba soon) plus more additions to The Bullpen Arena, The Sound Art takeover and much more…
Over the past few years Nozstock has forged a reputation for hosting some of the finest UK comedy talent. Seen now as the perfect place to road-test new material past luminaries have included the likes of Russell Howard, Phil Jupitus, Adrian Edmondson and Steven Frost to name a few. Headlining Saturday Night this year are the award winning and mask-wearing hip-hop duo The Rubberbandits. Made up of Mr. Chrome and Blindboy Boat Club their satirical, lewd and at times hypnogogic blend of music, comedy and crank calls deservedly earned them ‘Best Irish Act’ at the Entertainment.ie awards in 2011. Having shared a stage with the likes of Jessie J and performed to over 20 000 people at Oxygen last year, The Rubberbandits have proved they are even more dynamic and entertaining live as on screen.
Also treading the hallowed boards is self-proclaimed ‘jester from hell’ Jason Rouse (whose riotous act has been described by Chortle as a "a tirade of unspeakable depravity"), Canadian funny-man and regular on Russell Howards Good News/Never Mind The Buzzcocks Tony Law, new kid on the block Darius Davies and a whole host of breakthrough talent.
Things are getting a little bit exciting over in the Wrong Directions Cinetent where local collective MASH’s careful curation this year will result in a stunning programme of visual treats and inspiring eye-openers, including a highlight retrospective collection from esteemed animator and experimental artist Jeff Scher. Scher has work sited in permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art, as well as in the Academy Film Archives and at the Pompidou Centre. With investigations into the culture of Mash Up, magical music videos and kid-friendly visual treats throughout the day, Mash will also be bringing you some live AV late night experiences.
Meanwhile on Saturday afternoon the tent will be transformed into The Sound Art zone. SA is an emerging practice that has grown out of the avant-garde jazz, contemporary classical and conceptual visual art movements. There will be eclectic, live audio-visual performances that explore ambience, electronics, improvisation, noise and silence. Artists include the field recording infused electronica of Gagarin and the hypnotic drone soundscapes of the Wardenclyffe Trio. Bring open ears, open minds and expect to hear something new, weird and wonderful.
Over in the Bullpen Arena leading lights of the UK hip-hop scene Sika Studios have expanded their line-up to showcase the cream of the UK crop. New acts include underground star and member of the legendary Foreign Beggars crew Dr Syntax, Bristol collective Rat Tash, explosive live six-piece Raw Element, Croydon MC du jour Cracker John and oldskool duo Ricta and Idylli who have performed alongside the like of Wu Tang Clan, Plan B and Example to name a few.
Landscaped around a ramshackle Tudor farmhouse this small family-run event now in its 14th year is set in the pristine Herefordshire countryside. It started life as a party for relatives and friends and has grown organically over the years into an experience where a sense of belonging still holds true. With over six stages and many nooks, crannies and secret wooded glades to discover Nozstockers are invited on a journey of discovery through the dingles and the dells of this magical site.
