Shoreditch arts centre Rich Mix will host a 20 day FREE celebration of Eastern European music, arts, films, culture, and European Championship Football.
It's all kicking off at Rich Mix throughout June celebrating the UEFA's European Championship taking place in Poland and Ukraine.
All football matches will be shown for FREE on giant 15 x 10 foot screen. As soon as the final match finishes each day, the party will start with 20 days and nights of mainly FREE live music and performances.
Rich Mix is teaming up with the finest Eastern European London-based artists, promoters and musicians to celebrate the very best of Eastern European culture in London.
Confirmed acts include Mahala Rai Banda (only ticketed event), Warsaw Village Band Szászcsávás Transylvanian Gypsy Band, Alec Kopyt (Amsterdam Klezmer Band) Csergo Band, Tania Tzarovska, Tea Hodzic Trio, London Liming Eastern European Special, Radio Gagarin, Muha, Igor Outkine’s Man with Movie Camera, Arhai, Shekoyokh, Monooka’s Caravan, Shtetl Superstars, London Bulgarian Choir, Mazaika, PAiL and Deconstruction Project.
On top of this we’ll be hosting two art exhibitions, DJ nights, album launches, spoken word mash-ups plus the all-important Eastern European food and drink.

THURSDAY 7 JUNE
7.30pm - Mahala Rai Banda /£12.50 adv, £15 door*
Kick off with the 20-day festival with the explosive fusion of Balkan and Gypsy rhythms from Mahala Rai Banda on Thursday 7 June.
Fast melodies form the Romanian band who featured all over the Borat soundtrack. They are the mighty Mahala Rai Banda, an explosive combination of Gypsy accordion and fiddle in the tradition of Johnny Depp favourites Taraf de Haidouks, and ex-Romanian military brass blowers in the line of Fanfare Ciocarlia. Plus DJ till late. * The Mahala Rai Banda event on Thursday 7 June is the festival’s only ticketed event.
FRIDAY 8 JUNE

9.30pm - Csergo Band & Monooka
Csergo Band plays traditional folk and Gypsy music from Transylvania, where the mix of Hungarian, Romanian and Gypsy (Roma) rhythms and melodies intertwine and borders fade. After several collaborations, Csergo band has now officially joined forces with the fantastic award-winning Transylvanian singer Monooka.

Stephunk T is a Czech musician who has been creating music and performing live in many arenas around the world since 1990. Charlotte Michelle (DJ). Charlotte won 2010’s Techscover DJ competition; her DJ bookings have gone international with sets at festivals and clubs from Slovakia to New York.

Dash Café presents the Téa Hodžic Trio. In this trio Téa explores the songs of her homeland, the former Yugoslavia, and its bordering countries. With virtuoso musicians Oliver Wilson-Dickson on violin and Luke Carver Goss on accordion, a few instrumental fireworks are inevitable.

The Eastern Europe in Drag invites prospective audiences to analyse how heteronormative ideas of sexuality and traditional gender roles are questioned through drag performances in Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. Later catch live music from MuHa, who combine the melodic beauty of Eastern Europe folklore, North Indian Kathak rhythms, Cuban beats, and original lyrics from Old Russian to modern Ukranian.

Russian and Gypsy extravaganza! Featuring Igor Outkine, Sarah Harrison and Mazaika. Mazaika’s extensive repertoire consists of Russian folk songs, Russian and Balkan Gypsy music, Russian and Argentine tango, classical highlights, Neapolitan songs and French chanson, Hotclub jazz, Klezmer tunes and Igor’s original compositions which always have a strong improvisational element.

Arhai project evolved around composer and vocalist Jovana Backovic, and is a unique fusion of contemporary electronic music with folk influences from both the UK and Balkan regions.

Wormfood presents She’koyokh, London’s award-winning klezmer ensemble, who present vibrant and exhilarating music, straight from London’s melting pot: soulful Eastern European Jewish, Balkan, Turkish and Gypsy music.

Award-winning Romanian singer-songwriter Monooka founded Monooka’s Caravan to perform traditional songs from the Carpathian Mountains in a powerful collaboration with three British musicians, Meg Hamilton, Matt Bacon and Paul Moylan.

Polish Contemporary Arts present Deconstruction Project. Deconstruction Project will curate series of events presenting young and upcoming Polish artists that currently live and work in London. The London Bulgarian Choir takes us on a journey around Bulgaria, exploring the landscapes of the voice and the creative traditions of this land. Later, live music comes from Hungary’s Lazlo and Wanlov the Kubolor’s African Gypsy Project.

NORD is a meeting of musicians in search of common elements between the Slavs, the Scandinavians and the aboriginal peoples of the North. The Warsaw Village Band hosts this musical summit as a tribute to the heroes and mystics, the Viking warriors, and the poets of the Saami and Inuit peoples.
WEDNESDAY 27 JUNE

Alec Kopyt has been a member of the Amsterdam Klezmer Band as singer and percussionist. As a solo performer he has proven himself capable of quickly entrancing audiences worldwide.
In projects like “Man bite Dog” and “The President of the World” he appeared as a scat poet.

Szászcsávás Transylvanian Gypsy Band. The core of the band is the prímás (lead fiddle) Jámbor István whose nickname is Dumnezeu (or God in Romanian), and Csányi Sándor on fiddle, his son Alim playing kontra, and Alim’s brother Sanyiko on double-bass.
