Peter & The Test Tube Babies, Goldblade, The Skints, Pronghorn, The Toasters, Sharks, The Vibrators, Janice Graham Band, Orange, Hearts on Fire, The Foundations, The Dugz all confirmed.
Festival goers should get set to revel in The Blockheads high octane performance, as they close the tent on Friday 20th July. Having first played Wickerman’s main stage six years ago the jazz-rock collective, who celebrate their 35th anniversary this September, will be delivering a slate of crowd-pleasing classic material. They are joined on the bill by fellow Wickerman veterans Manchester-based Goldblade, the critically acclaimed Sharks and London based reggae and dub upstarts The Skints. In what’s shaping up to be one of the best parties of the summer, seventies punk act Peter & The Test Tube Babies, US and UK pop punk rising stars Orange, the all girl four piece Hearts Under Fire, musical pioneers The Vibrators and Dumfries & Galloway’s own The Foundations will also be bringing their finest to the festival’s Friday line-up.
Amongst those taking to the Scooter tent stage on Saturday 21st July are British cow punk act Pronghorn and America’s first ska band, Manhattan based The Toasters, currently on their 30th anniversary tour. Manchester funkateers The Janice Graham Band will give the Wickerman crowd a taste of their new concept album, Scotland’s very own The Dugz will bring their brand of raw street punk to the fore and Davy Cowan & The Hose Beast will keep the party atmosphere going with high energy punk covers. The most eagerly anticipated set may well come as Saturday night’s antics are brought to a close by ska sensationalists Bad Manners, whose legendary 2009 performance at the festival sets an exciting precedent.
The Blockheads Mick Gallagher commented: "We played Wickerman six years ago and what makes it stand out from other festivals is its genuinely friendly atmosphere. It's a festival for everyone who loves music and it gives us a chance to play a festival in Scotland which can only be a good thing!"
Bad Manners frontman Buster Bloodvessel commented: “I remember Wickerman very fondly, the smiles and the dancing. For me it’s a top European Festival and Bad Manners and Wickerman seem to go hand in hand. See you all there!”
Helen Chalmers, Wickerman’s Festival Coordinator, added: “Wickerman is rooted in punk and ska and the continued growth of the Scooter tent is reflective of the festival’s growth overall. For many of our fans the Scooter Tent is still Wickerman’s main attraction – it’s more important than the main stage! After listening to the feedback we’ve expanded the tent and felt it was only right to ask Bad Manners to return so those who missed out in 2009 have a second chance to catch their set. We’re thrilled to bring such an exciting line up of performers to the 2012 festival. Roll on July!”
New York pop stars Scissor Sisters and top Scottish band Texas were recently announced as the headline acts for the main Summerisle stage, joined by very special guests The View, a DJ set from Mike Skinner, Levellers, Newton Faulkner and Kassidy, naming just a few. With ten stages of live music there’s plenty more to come and the Axis Reggae Tent, Em-It Tent, Acoustic Village, goNorth Festival Tour Tent, Greenman Inn and Ho-down Wendy House are all still to be announced. The BlockheadsFormed in 1977 to promote Ian Dury's album New Boots and Panties on the first Stiff Records tour of the UK. The Blockheads are fronted by Derek 'The Draw' Hussey, who was Ian's best friend and is now the band's vocalist and wordsmith. Chaz Jankel, Norman Watt-Roy, John Turnbull and Mick Gallagher still remain from the original band and the current line-up is augmented by John Roberts on drums and a rolling line up of saxophonists including Gilad Atzmon, Terry Edwards or Dave Lewis.
At the Wickerman these legendary Brit-Funkers will be playing all the tunes you would expect them to "Reasons To Be Cheerful Part 3", "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll", "What A Waste", "Sweet Gene Vincent", "Clevor Trever", "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" and more!
