Shrewsbury Folk Festival has revealed that tickets for next year’s festival will go on sale on December 1.

Demand is expected to be high for the four-day festival from August 24 to 27 after tickets for this year’s event sold out in record time more than three months before August Bank Holiday weekend.

Several of the headline acts will also be revealed on December 1 – fans will be able to find out who will be topping the bill at the same time as ordering weekend or day tickets.

Shrewsbury's reputation as one of the country’s premier folk festivals has seen it become a regular sell-out in advance of the festival.

During the four-day festival, which is based on one site at the County Showground just minutes from the town centre, visitors can enjoy five music venues, a dance tent, dozens of workshops, a children's festival, Refolkus – the festival’s youth programme for 12 to 25 -year-olds, a craft fair and food village.

Camping is all on-site allowing festivalgoers easy access to all venues and activities.

Festival Director Alan Surtees said: “We are really excited about the 2012 festival following this year’s very successful event.
“We think another early sell out is likely as we have more and more people making Shrewsbury a regular feature of their summer. We know that hundreds of people were disappointed this year because they didn’t expect tickets to go as fast as they did – it’s best to make sure you’re not disappointed by buying early.”

Each year the festival raises money its charity partner, the Hope House Hospice, to fund its music therapy work for children with life limiting illnesses. Over the past four years, donations from festivalgoers and £1 from every adult ticket sold has helped to raise over £20,000.

The earlybird offer on tickets lasts until 31 March with ticket prices going up on 1 April.
