Sonisphere is, for the third year running, the proud recipient of The Greener Festival Award for environmental awareness. This year sees the festival granted its highest accolade yet in the ‘Commended’ category for exceptional efforts to make the event more sustainable – particularly in terms of reducing the number of private cars arriving on-site, and significant increases in attendees arriving by train or coach.

The award organisers said they were extremely pleased with the results which took place against “very difficult financial pressures in some parts of the festivals sector” and “challenging summer weather” in both hemispheres.

Ben Challis, Co-founder of A Greener Festival said “One highlight was the real reduction in car use at many festivals as people swapped to coaches, trains, shared cars or even cycled. A downside was the thousands and thousands of tents ands other perfectly reusable camping equipment left behind at festivals in the UK – what a mess and what a waste”.

The award will be presented at this year’s UK Festival Awards in London on Tuesday 15th November. It follows on from Sonisphere’s recent win at the Live Music Business Awards for Best Headline Performance: Slipknot.
