DIVE INTO THE MONSTER’S LAIR, PAGAN PILATES & PSYCHO CINEMA

Friday12th – Sunday 14th August 2011 Standon, Hertfordshire (Just 40 mins from London) www.standon-calling.com

Themed Fancy Dress, Swimming Pool, All-Night Bars, On-Site Nightclub, Interactive Theatre

A monster safari, pagan pilates, a psycho cinema, space-hopper races and a festival nightclub like no other are just some of the attractions on offer at Standon Calling this year, besides live performance from the likes of Spiritualized, Battles, and Hercules and Love Affair. Always about more than just the music, the Gods & Monsters theme is taking over the festival site. Here are just some of the attractions:

Festival Site

The centrepiece is a giant obelisk in the middle of the festival, while our on-site nightclub in a cowshed is being transformed into the Monster’s Lair. There’s a Garden of Healing chill-out area featuring massage and more, a Goddess Grooming Parlour, a Zombie Marketplace, a Psycho-Cinema and a Where the Wild Things Are area with loads for kids to do including reggae nursery rhymes, piñata smashing and a badge-making machine.

Art installations include giant sculptures you can paint on and a Wisdom Tree where you pick up nuggets of wisdom or simply leave a message for your mates about where to meet you. The swimming pool, meanwhile, is set to be the centre of all types of awesome activity, from Heathen Baptisms to poolside Pagan Pilates.

Performance

A giant interactive game featuring performance and theatre from the Heritage Arts Company allow festival-goers to immerse them selves in the Gods & Monsters theme. You can track monsters, hunt relics and participate in dubious nocturnal rituals. You can also take a Monster Safari featuring an aircraft simulation, improvised comedy and free shots of tequila.

Howard Marks is headlining the Under Covers Literary Lounge, which will feature Literary DeathMatch contest and our first-ever Bad Sex Awards. Puppetry, epic storytelling and the now infamous Sock Wrestling comes courtesy of Spoken Ink.  We also have space-hopper races, a Hellhound Show (think dog show with fire) and a Rolling Stage featuring rockaoke, cabaret and performances from you, should you feel inclined.

Festival School

If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t feel they’ve had a proper festival experience unless they’ve learnt something, then Standon is for you. You can learn to beatbox, how to make jewellery, create comics, give a sensuous massage, write songs or even play the ukulele.
