Superstars Ocean Colour Scene’s story should already be the stuff of legends; a rip-roaring rock’n’folk odyssey set to a backdrop of 23 years of UK pop culture at its very best. The band have notched up nine albums, three of which went to top 5 as well as nine successive top 20 singles. They supported Oasis at their massive Knebworth shows and this summer they are coming to Summer Sundae Weekender for a Summer Midlands exclusive. Richard Fearless aka Death in Vegas has cut some of the most unusual records to hit the UK dance scene. Fusing electro, dub, rock, psychedelia, minimal techno, soul and solid-gone experimentation Death in Vegas has grown to represent a thrillingly of-the-moment sound that is spacious and otherworldly. Once part of perhaps the most notorious pop phenomena of the 1980s the iconic Adam Ant is back with his new band; The Good, the Bad & the Lovely Posse. Singer songwriter Billy Bragg will play a special set to celebrate the 100th birthday of legendary folk legend Woody Guthrie. The King Blues combine the crackle of the best punk rock with the swing and glide of the best pop music. Theirs is the sound of a group who WILL save the world and who WILL get the girl. The American musician was born on 14th July 1912 and has been cited as a major influence of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Joe Strummer to name but a few. Friends, Brooklyn’s freshest girl-fronted pop group have taken the UK by storm in 2012 with the release of their catchy, sassy debut double A side I’m His Girl/ My Boo. Derek Safo aka Sway has set the bar for clever and authentic hip-hop, racking up MOBO and Beta prizes as well as a Mercury nomination with his debut album This Is My Demo. Local Leicester legend Uncle Frank, the spectacular alter ego of The Fun Lovin’ Criminals’ Frank Benbini fronts an awesome live show where the Jungle Book meets Burt Bacharach and the Blockheads. Norwegian Grammy nominees DATAROCK with their mix of indie dance, new wave, pop, rock, punk & funk. MOBO award winning hip hop artist Akala is one of the most dynamic and literate talents in the UK. In 2009 he launched the infamous Hip Hop Shakespeare Company a theatre production enterprise whose performances merge a medley of songs inspired by scenes and themes from famous Shakespeare plays and sonnets. At the tender age of twenty-two Warwickshire songstress Lucy Rose has already won over critics with her heart-stoppingly poignant songs and sensational cracked porcelain voice. With their free wheeling approach to live performance Tim Edey and Brendan Power present a powerful blend of passion and virtuosity that is infectious.
Summer Sundae Weekender 2012 are also thrilled to announce the first members of this years Drowned in Sound stage line up : With the release earlier this year of their critically lauded eponymous debut album four-piece Django Django have emerged to become one of the hottest bands around. Scottish Indie-rock band The Twilight Sad have also drawn widespread critical acclaim for their sound driven by dense sonic walls of shoe-gazing guitar and lead singer James Graham’s thick accented vocals. Leicester locals Maybeshewill are an instrumental band whose music is characterized by the use of programmed and sampled electronic elements alongside guitars, bass and drums. Hey Sholay are a five-piece group of musicians hailing from Sheffield and Leeds and hotly tipped to become one of the finest new bands in the U.K. Clean Bandit work as a collective with an instrumental core of string quartet, keys, electro-acoustic drums and various vocalists. For their “Soundsystem” shows, they call upon their network of performers to expand upon the usual DJ set up.
Finally Summer Sundae Weekender are excited to announce part of their late night entertainment, which will be presented in association with dbe and Superfly. Along with Superfly’s finest residents the line up will include championed electro DJ duo Jack Beats and sets from Metronomy’s Olugbenga, plus DJ/ Producer Pasquale and dbe resident and Bass maestro Jake Twell.
