Violinist Nicola Benedetti has captivated audiences and critics across the globe with her musicality and poise and now she is set to capture the heart of the 85,000 strong crowd at T in the Park 2012. Nicola’s ability to communicate and enthral audiences with dynamic and energy-filled performances makes her a highly sought performer on the world platform. Organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager are proud to have Nicola Benedetti back on home turf, to open the Main Stage on Sunday 8th July.
Nicola will also perform during the day as a very special guest in the brand new Creative Scotland Kaleidoscope Club which will host a diverse range of performances across the weekend, with some of the finest talent from across the country, from ceilidh to classical music with a 21st century twist, to dance and an array of entertainment gems in between.
Nicola Benedetti said: "I am absolutely ecstatic to be playing T in the Park this year! What a wonderful opportunity to place classical music amongst more mainstream performances.
It is always a thrill for me to perform back in Scotland and it can make such a difference to play in venues beyond concert halls."
Highlights of Nicola’s 2011/12 season include her debut with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest and with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Zurich Chamber, Cincinnati Symphony, Detroit Symphony and Hallé orchestras. She recently participated in a highly publicised New York Philharmonic performance in Central Park and in September she will make a much anticipated performance at the Last Night of the Proms.
Born in Scotland of Italian heritage, Nicola began violin lessons at the age of five, and went on to become winner of the Classical BRIT Award for Young British Classical Performer in 2008. With five albums under her belt and a reputation for pushing the boundaries to perform a broad variety of repertoire and reach a wide audience, there’s no doubt that Nicola Benedetti is one of Britain’s most innovative and creative talents and is sure to show her crossover appeal to the passionate crowd at T in the Park this summer.
