FRIENDLY FIRES CONFIRMED FOR HEADLINE DJSET + MORE INFO ON THE OUTDOOR FESTIVAL PARTY!

With just over 2 weeks to go until the inaugural Big Beach Ball rolls into Aberdeen, The Big Beach Ball announce their final headline act to the already packed bill. FRIENDLY FIRES are due to perform one of their infamous DJ Sets in the newly announced outdoor BEACH HUT STAGE! With a plethora of awards and nominations under their belts, the band have become a household name, one which will surely be the highlight of many a music lovers day! The organisers also today reveal more on their plans for the outdoor quarter as well as three further additions to the line up.

The Mercury Prize nominated, festival headlining UK band FRIENDLY FIRES join the likes of Derrick Carter, Heartthrob, Slam, Tiger & Woods, T. Williams, The Little Kicks and Fridge Magnets on Sunday 6th May at Aberdeen Beach Ballroom. The band name check the likes of Prince, Warp Records, Carl Craig, Kompakt and Andrew Weatherall as influences, creating a dreamy take on classic pop songs fused with their electronic musical heroes. Their music has earned the band two Brit Award nominations, countless remixes and a Top Ten album. Since 2007 "Paris"dropped as "Single of The Week" in The Guardian newspaper and NME magazine,and also on Zane Lowe's BBC1 show, the trio from St Albans in Hertfordshire have extensively touring Europe, Japan, USA, Canada, Mexico, South America andAustralia.

Friendly Fires self‐titled debut LP reached double gold certification in 2008 taking the band on a whirlwind ride to fame, joining the NME Awards tour and picking up Best Breakthrough Award at The South Bank Show and for ‘Best Dancefloor Filler’ at the NME's, Best British Group and British Breakthrough Act at the Brits soon followed.

With close ties to acts like Aeroplane, Foals, Simian Mobile Disco, Phoenix, Tensnake, Joakim and a love for all things house, disco and techno, Friendly Fires have now achieved fame for their exciting mixtapes with drummer Jack Savidge as a DJ showing how dance music can be inspired by classic pop tracks.

Appearing on Boiler Room, BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix, serving up a cracking Resident Advisor podcast and releasing one of the infamous Berlin Suck My Deckdouble CDs has brought Jack to the fore of club music. Now touted as much as a DJas a live performer he has recently started the Deep Shit project alongside Edwin from Foals.

George Russell, Musical Director at the festival spoke of his excitement on having Friendly Fires join the line up, “It’s great to have such a well respected cross over act that appeals to people that like either or both live music and DJs. They’ve won some amazing awards in their short career to date. Recently their sets on Resident Advisor and The Boiler Room have caught the attention of everyone from clubbers to band lovers alike. They’re won of the biggest bands around today, it’s a big deal for us to have them.”

Festival goers will be able to enjoy the Friendly Fires set in the exciting outdoor quarter, on a newly announced stage – The Beach Hut. With the outdoor area now taking shape organisers have revealed a live graffiti wall installation by Scottish artist Ross Dinnett, a delicious selection of food vendors set on a sandy palm tree beach, scattered with deck chairs, from where you can keep a view on all the action!The area also boasts a Havana Club Mojito Bar serving up the delectable minty fresh libation, a cider garden complete with deckchairs and beanbags as provided by Rekorderlig Strawberry & Lime Fields. Meanwhile, another stage pops up in theform of the Red Bull Event Truck, featuring a selection of DJs to ensure everyone outside is adequately entertained! Also joining in on the carnival atmosphere are coconut shys and a tin can alley, among many other lovely additions! There really issomething for everyone here!

Today’s announcement brings with it the addition of 3 local talents – Everything Else Sucks head honcho KRAZZY MARTIN, NOCTURNE RADIO and local disco fiend YOULAP.

Speaking today, one of the festival organisers Claire Clark said, “It’s all coming together, it’s getting really exciting, we can’t wait to share the event with the city and Scotland as a whole. There is so much homegrown talent in Aberdeen and across the country; it’s a real privilege to do something like this. We’re thrilled to announce the Friendly Fires DJ set today, along with more local talents and all the exciting outdoor goings on, BUT, we do still have something pretty amazing up our sleeves…All will be revealed next week….”
