Here at The Big Chill Festival, we are very excited to announce the arrival of The Green Tent Co and Stepladder. The world’s first recyclable tent company and the forward thinking youth development organisation will be working together to create and deliver an exciting new brand run by young people.
Together they have formed an exciting new partnership to offer a unique opportunity for young people of any means and background to earn and learn in a real world environment and witness the disciplines involved in producing a large-scale outdoor event. Under the supervision of professionals they will be tasked with looking at ways The Green Tent Co can have an even bigger impact at festivals through more environmentally sustainable and socially responsible ways.
Each year we are faced with the mammoth task of cleaning up the fields, which are usually strewn with huge amounts of used camping equipment including tents, sleeping bags and camping mats.
Until now we have only been able to work with charities in the main to collect good equipment and a vast majority of the remainder end up going straight to landfill because a traditional tent is made up of many different components such as fibre glass poles, nylon zipz and metal pegs which makes them un-economical to separate for recycling.
We are working closely with The Green Tent Co who are the first company in the world to design a stylish, competitively priced tent range made solely from one product and incorporating a new peg system which prevents them from being left in the ground all with one focus of being environmentally and festival friendly. Their groundbreaking range starts with a 2 man dome tent and is topped by a deluxe 6 man, 3 bedroom version which is tall enough to stand up in. They have even manufactured their sleeping bags and camping mats from the same single product making them more festival friendly.
Stepladder provides opportunities for 16-25 year olds to develop core skills and value what they do through the delivery of live projects, events, research and recruitment and offers everyone a genuine opportunity to make the best of their lives through access to Apprenticeships, internships, work experience and job opportunities.
So if you’re going to be purchasing a new tent for this year’s Big Chill festival please visit www.thegreententcompany.co.uk and help us to reduce our carbon footprint, thus saving the planet.
