While other festivals have seen a decline in sales this year, L Fest is seeing a huge growth, as excitement builds about the UK’s brightest weekend for gay women.
‘Tickets are selling very well, with sales from around the globe making L Fest a truely international event,’ says Festival Director Cindy Edwards. ‘Our tickets are reasonably priced at £95 for three nights of fun and inspiration. We don’t charge extra for parking or campervans. Our motto is “try something you’ve never done before”, because it’s all included in the price. So whether that’s a writing or drama workshop, film-making, power-kiting, archery, climbing or a riverboat cruise – just get involved!’
Cindy adds: ‘We are loving all the hype surrounding L Fest. Our Crew have been up and down the country promoting the festival and the response has been fantastic, with just one month to go we are all so excited for the event.’
There will be an amazing line-up of acts across five stages at the beautiful showground in Shrewsbury where the festival takes place. The fabulous L Project girls will be performing ‘It Does Get Better’ on the Arena Stage – and all of those artists will also appear with their band or solo. This includes Horse, Greymatter and Heads Hearts. Plus favourites from last year are returning to L Fest – Jill Jackson and Christina Novelli.
In the Arts Pavilion, top authors Stella Duffy and VG Lee will be reading from their new novels. ‘And we’re delighted that Sarah Waters will be taking the stage on the Saturday,’ says Cindy, ‘so in her honour we are throwing a Tipping the Velvet masked ball.’
If you prefer the quieter life, then you can sit back and enjoy a film as L Fest even has its own cinema, showing at least eight different features and TV shows over the weekend and hosting Q&A sessions with directors and contributors.
There are plenty of extras for those of you who enjoyed the festival last year. The organisers have added a silent disco in the new Big Top until 2am: think headphones with two channels so you can dance to pure cheese while your friend gets down to some funky house.
There will also be firepit music sessions, glamping tents for hire and a children’s area with workshops (kids go free). For groups there are discounts for ten or more people. Or if you’re on your own then get yourself over to the L Fest Solos tent, a dedicated area for you to meet friends, enjoy the weekend with others and instantly feel at home.
As you arrive, the L Fest Crew will be lined up with their pink wheelbarrows to help carry your bags and set up camp – now that’s what we call a friendly service!
L Fest is a real must in your festival calendar and was voted Best Festival by G3 Readers and Best Live Event by Mylesbianradio.com after last year’s debut. Tickets are selling fast for the weekend, which runs from 13 to 16 July in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Buy now HERE
