To celebrate its third year the Willowman festival has added two fantastic new stages. Axis Sound System and Creative Intentions Chill out Café will give the Willowman revellers more musical choice as they party over the solstice weekend.
Festival director Steve Williams said “We have given the Willowman a major facelift to mark its third birthday. Classic Jamaican inspired beats and gentle acoustic vibrations will complement the eclectic line up to be found on our main and willowy wobbly bar stages.”
Axis Sound System is well respected on the festival circuit offering up a combination of scorching Ska, cool rocksteady, reggae and dancehall. Axis founder Dr Huxtable has over 30 years of experience in entertaining the masses with his vintage vinyl. For the 2012 Willowman he has invited a few friends along to perform over the four days. These include Bigga Shakatone, Mikey D.O.N, Emjay and Big Toes Hi-Fi.
When asked about his Willowman booking Dr Huxtable replied “We are really looking forward to giving our Soundsystem a summer airing in this very beautiful part of North Yorkshire”.
Creative Intentions Chill out Café are also eagerly anticipating their first Willowman outing.
Creative Intentions promoter Brian Barnes commented "I am over the moon to be involved in this year’s Willowman Festival, having played and enjoyed the first Willowman back in 2010, I am delighted to have been asked to put together a programme for the Acoustic Cafe with the support from Paula at Creative Intentions Cafe and Amanda from Rockpig.”
He added “The programme includes 18 acts I have either shared the stage with, put on as a promoter or have seen live in recent months. Although acoustic in nature the acts cross many genres from folk, country and psych. I am sure this will prove to be a great addition to this lovely grass roots, family friendly event.”
This year’s Willowman will lay open its gates to the public at noon on the 21st June and will run through to Sunday the 24th. Headline acts include Utah Saints, Vintage Trouble, former Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell and Benjamin Francis Leftwich. Tickets are priced at £70 for the four days.
