Yahoo! Wireless with Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake took place in the Queen Elizabeth Park, which is a great setting for a music festival, whilst on-going development is still taking place.
Apart from the main stage there was also the Pepsi Max Stage which saw a great set earlier in the day from Bingo Players, which included their recent hit ( which featured Far East Movement ) - Get Up (Rattle). The tent also hosted a set from Will.i.am which not only had the tent full to capacity but also a crowd around the outside as well. With colourful visuals and 2 dancing robots he played a back-to-back set of his hits to the crowds delight.
There was also The SBTV Stage and the Yahoo Stage which had earlier hosted the likes of Angel & Fenech-Soler. A bandstand also gave a platform to up-and-coming artists like Cameron Bloomfield.
The headliners were the main reason that everyone was there… A new partnership of Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake as part of their ‘Legends Of The Summer’ tour.
The Justin Timberlake Friday event was slick and polished with his full band. The band blending R&B and pop elements that have become the signature sound for Timberlake, whilst fusing neo-soul vibes in to the mix. Every song was written for the live environment - creating a tight, punchy and streamlined set. Whereas the Sunday set saw a more stripped back and edgy Justin with him playing guitar and keyboards to accompany Jay-Z. The pair took it in turns to dominate the stage, both looking really happy and comfortable in their joint venture.
They treated us to a plethora of hits, opening with ‘Holy Grail’, followed by such classics as ‘Cry Me a River’, ‘Empire State Of Mind’, and ‘Mirrors’ to name a few. The crowd were asked “Did you all come here to party?” which they had!
Jay-Z dedicated his set to Trayvon Martin and Justin treated us to some new material; ‘Take Back The Night’ with a disco feel seemingly inspired by ‘Off The Wall’ (released on YouTube the same day).
The shock of the evening for their fans was when Rihanna joined Jayâ€Z for ‘Run This Town’ after jumping on a plane from T In The Park for the duet. People literally threw their hands up to their faces and screamed in shock.
We were even treated to a version of ‘New York New York’!
The sun shone down over all three days of the event which just added to the experience, and one that seemed a very happy coalition.
The encore included ‘Encore’ ‘SexyBack’ & ‘Suit & Tie’ closing what had been a very enjoyable weekend.
Jay-Z The Magna Carta Tour October dates announced.
