The Southport Weekender started life way back in 1987 as the brainchild of one soul music obsessive, Alex Lowes began hiring out back rooms in bars just so he could play some soul music out loud for the public. With his finger firmly on the pulse, and a unique ability to preempt dance culture movements, what was to become Southport Weekender was born, and has since grown into one of the soul and urban music events of the year.
